VEX Robotics Competition: Round Up

Round Up is a challenge between two robot alliance teams. Each alliance consists of two robots each. Points are scored by transporting circular tubes on goal posts stationed around the 12′ x 12′ field. Points are also scored by hanging from the central ladder at the end of the match.

The game starts with a 20-second autonomous period in which the robot moves based on its pre-programmed code. The total points are calculated at the end of the autonomous round, and the team with the most points is awarded a 10 point bonus. For the next two minutes, the drivers are allowed to take control of the robot and earn points. Every tube placed on a goalpost is worth 2 points. In addition, 5 points are given for every goalpost that is “owned.” A goalpost is owned by the team who has the most tubes on a particular goalpost.

At the end of the match, robotics can hang from the ladder in the center of the field for additional points. Robots that are completely above the lower bar (6″) are considered “Low Hanging” and are given 10 points, while robots that are completely above the second lowest bar (18″) are considered “High Hanging” and are given 20 points.

The total score is calculated at the end of the two minute driver control period, and the alliance team with the highest points is declared the winner of the match.
