2009–2010 Competition

VEX Robotics Competition: Clean Sweep

The autonomous period is a 20-second portion of the match where robots are not controlled by human players; instead, they depend on sensors and precise calculations, posing a challenge especially for the programming division of the team. The driver control period allows the robot to respond more actively to robots of the opposing alliance. Thus not only must the robot be robust and well-built, drivers and coaches must be focused and communicate well with one another to maximize the performance of the robot.

The simplicity of the game allows great versatility in the way teams approach their strategy. With the large range of VEX robot parts, there are countless methods to employ in the making of a robot. The functions of mechanisms can span from a sturdy, defensive wall to a quick and light scorer. In addition, since the game is only 2 minutes long, this adds to the intensity of the game, making it a true test of driver skill and robot execution.
