VEX
VEX is a international robotics competition where teams strive to create a functional robot that efficiently performs a task while competing against the opposing team. In this year’s competition, Clean Sweep, two alliance robots on each side of the field attempt to send balls across the wall into the other team’s court. The match is subdivided into a 20 second autonomous period and a two minute manual control period. During autonomous mode, the robot must drive and operate without a driver, relying solely on the pre-programmed code to guide itself. In drive mode, the drivers use their driving skills in combination with the robot’s capabilities in order to dump balls over the wall as fast as possible. Robot diversity in this competition is immense, as there are nearly an infinite amount of effective designs. However, the VEX competition requires teams to maximize their strengths and work well with their alliance partners throughout the competition.
