Organization

Introduction: The Saints Robotics team is split up into two main branches, the communications side and the engineering side. The communication side includes public relations, graphics, and website. The engineering side includes the building, electronics, programming and VEX.

The Saints Robotics Team is currently headed by President Kevin Kimura, Communications Vice-Presidents Olivier Fontenelle and Eric Sun as well as Engineering Vice-President Dennis Liao. Saints Robotics has foregone elections in favor of a system where leadership and officer positions are assigned by the current President and Vice-Presidents. This eliminates the need for students to campaign (and creating animosity between friends as they cannot run against each other), sidesteps politically-apathetic members, and ensures that only the most dedicated and qualified members keep Saints Robotics running as best it can.

We believe in the democratic system, and if there is a conflict that cannot be resolved in membership with talks, the rest of the club is encouraged to put their ideas forward and to vote, if that is required to solve the problem. All members are encouraged to put forth their best suggestions for everything and all appointed officers must listen to them. This system of clearly structured leadership encourages a “big-brother big-sister” family atmosphere so that all members feel welcome.

Saints Robotics is subdivided into six main groups:

  • Build Team
  • Vex Team
  • Programming Team
  • Website Team
  • Graphics Design Team
  • Public Relations/Fundraising Team

The Engineering Branch – Dennis Liao

Dennis Liao, the Engineering Vice-President heads the Build, VEX and Programming teams. The Build team, headed by Build Officer Michael Koenig is in charge of designing and constructing the robot for the FIRST Robotics Competition. The VEX team, headed by Dennis Liao and Larry Liu, designs and constructs the VEX robot in order to participate in VEX Robotics Competitions. The programming team, directed by David Woo, is in charge of programming the FIRST and VEX robot, as well as providing support services for the Website and Graphics team.

The Communications Branch – Olivier Fontenelle and Eric Sun

Olivier Fontenelle and Eric Sun, Communication Vice-Presidents, head the Website design, Graphics design and Public Relations/Fundraising teams. The Website design team, headed by Josh Li is in charge of designing, creating and updating all of Saints Robotics websites. The Graphics Team, directed by Angela Liu, is in charge of creating all teams designs, logos and aesthetically pleasing material, including banners, flags and robot decorations. Finally, the Public Relations/Fundraising team, headed by Amanda Watson is in charge of raising all funds for the club to function, as well as our communication and community outreach events.
