VEX Challenges Update

March 11th, 2010 No comments

Thank you Tyler for collecting some statistics.

I apologize for the massive amounts of emails that everyone is getting regarding this subject, but just a few minutes of your time can save our club hundreds, even thousands!

This is how our VEX entries stand at this point in time:

Promo Video: 6th place  (in the past 20 hours, two people voted the video a 50 and five people voted it less than 10)

Website: 2nd place (in the past 20 hours, one person voted the video a 50 and two people voted it an average of 23)

Top Five Essays: 1,3,4,5, and 6th place

Watch out for the following websites:

“Robotica Challengers Website” – high threat

“Team 254” (Cheesy Poofs) – first place website so far

“DiscoBots” and “VEX team 1138” – rising slowly

And the following videos:

“We Are One” – very close to ours, but with more votes

“254 promotional video” – 79 votes and counting

“What’s the meaning to be a VEX Team?” – very popular

“Lynfield College Robotics” – rising fast

“VEX, Its about” – this team won second last year

If you haven’t voted yet, now is the time to vote.  Voting will be over on March 19th.

So far, our video has been doing very well, moving into first place.  However, I am becoming increasingly concerned because our video did not top the charts by our high ratings, but because people voted the previous first and second place videos poorly.  We need to win through our own video’s popularity, so we should not vote other videos dishonestly.  I don’t believe that any video in the top positions deserves any lower than a 20 out of 50.  The VEX judges may disqualify us if they can prove that our team lacks good sportsmanship.  However, I still recommend spreading the word to vote for our video because this is a popularity contest.

-Tyler

Very well said, Tyler. Vote for Saints 1899!

Make sure you come to Wednesday, Friday, and weekend meetings. We NEED everyone to keep working hard.

Also, make sure you go support the VEX team at Redmond High School from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

EDIT: The Washington VEX Championships is on the 27th (two days from today), in case it was unclear.

The Build Season is over!!

February 24th, 2010 1 comment

The build season is over and the robot has been shipped off!!! Thank you to every member who participated in the construction of the robot! Also, a special thank you and shout out to all of our mentors without whom we would not be where we are today. They have spent countless hours helping us build this robot, spending time on the design, programming, construction and testing phase.

Also, a big thank you to our Sponsor STI Optronics for letting us use their facilities during the Build Season.

Thanks to all the parents who let your kid go to the robotics meeting, and also thank you for feeding us at meetings when we were hungry. :)

We are really proud of our finished product, so anticipate awesome videos on the website in the near future.

GO SAINTS!
