Site Update In Progress

As you can probably tell, I’m reworking the style-sheet for the site. Right now I’m mainly bringing the color scheme in line with our new logo etc. I will be getting much more in-depth over the next week or so. I’m using the Web Style Guide as direction for the redesign. Comments?

3ds Max Tutorials

Yes, I know it’s late. Let’s move past that.

This is a nice 5 min video on modeling. Some of you will be able to get it really quick, others won’t. If you do get it working, press F9 to render theobject, and then save it. There is a save button in the popup. Then bring it in or send the pic to my email.

Banner Design

Hey everyone!
So Hugo has asked me to design a banner and since a lot of you have been dissapointed by the fact that our robot doesn’t have fire anymore, I put that into our banner instead.
The banner is seperate from the flag which is in the process of being ordered (yay Olivier! =D)
The ratio of width to height is currently 4:13

If you have any comments or suggestions about the design, dimensions, etc. feel free to post here and I’ll edit it.

Banner Design--Final

Quick Updates

Due to the unanimous decision today, we will purchase and register one kit of VEX parts. The whole thing, including the kit, registration, and extra materials, should average about 700$. Please note however, that this is being done under the condition that the team shall participate in sufficient fundraisers to makeup for the kits. There are numerous ways in which that can be done, and there will be plenty of time to worry about that.

The task list that we must complete before the competition is:

  1. Build all the spare/replacement parts (Build, headed by Kevin)
  2. Finish all the flag/banner/button stuff (Graphics, headed by Angela)
  3. Present a Parent Meeting (PR, headed by Olivier)
  4. Buy spirit Gear (Joint PR-Graphics effort)
  5. make a sign (probably made of cloth) that says “Saints Robotics since we’re required to have our team name on our robot (Graphics, headed by Angela)
  6. gather/prepare extra spray paint, paint, cloth, etc. to bring to
    the competition (Graphics, headed by Angela)

If I missed anything, email me so I can add it into the list.

Pin/Button Designs

Hey everyone, I designed some buttons that we can wear/hand out for the competition.
I’m hoping that each member of Saints Robotics can recieve a pin showing which division (graphics, web design, build, program, or public relations) they are in.

There are two designs that have a black background and fire; these are to hand out to other teams.
On one design, the font is curved. On the other, the font is straight.
Please choose which one you like so I’ll be able to print them.

I also recieved the suggestion of making a pin with our SR symbol.
I will also be adding that to the gallery once I resize it and find a background color.

I posted the designs in the graphics media gallery so it wouldn’t take up so much space on this page.
Please take a look at them and comment here.
Keep in mind that these pins are 2.25″ in diameter (which is actually pretty small).

Also, although I finished designing them, I’ll need help making them.
I’ll be showing people how to make the actual pins tomorrow during tutorial and during the next Wednesday meeting, please come and help out, we need to make A LOT of them.

Painting the Robot

I went to Kinko’s yesterday and ordered the robot design.
My mom picked them up this morning and they look REALLY awesome but I’ll need a lot of help cutting out the shapes, taping, and painting them.
Here’s the painting schedule for this week unless anyone has suggestions or comments (we can adjust it depending on how long it takes for the paint to dry. Also, I checked the weather and, lucky for us, it shouldn’t rain the entire week except tomorrow, when we’ll be cutting out the shapes ^^):

  • Tuesday 10th (tomorrow): Start of tutorial to around 4:00 (unless we finish), we’ll probably be focusing on cutting out the shapes. We can start painting if there’s enough time.
  • Wednesday 11th: We’ll probably paint on the light blue coating (I don’t have spray paint for that so we’ll need to actually paint it on after mixing colors x.x) and spray on the other two blue layers. We might need to go until 3:00 but try and stay for as long as possible.
  • Thursday 12th: Hopefully, we can finish the white by today. We’ll start at the beginning of tutorial until probably around 4:00.
  • Friday the 13th *dramatic music*: Sorry I won’t be here on Friday, I promised I’d meet with my group for a History dialogue/project/presentation thingy so Iwon’t be there that day. If everything goes according to plan, all we need to do on Friday is outline the shapes though. It’ll be from the start of tutorial to around 4:00 (unless we finsh) for today also.

So if you’re going to help paint, make sure you bring clothes that you wouldn’t really care if they got painted on because the spray paint DOES NOT COME OFF (very easily). You can also bring gloves or something since the spray paint doesn’t come off your hands very well either (I still have specks of spray paint on my hand from Sunday ._.”’). That’s about it for now but I’ll repost/resend if there’s been a change or something. Thanks pplz! =]

New T-shirt and Flag Design

I edited the new flag and t-shirt design.
The fleurs and shield are now larger and it’s in two colors (helps save $$$ this way)

The flag is going to be the horizontal one and the t-shirt the vertical unless anyone has any suggestions.

If the colors for any reason seem messed up, please give me your email and I’ll send you the designs.

Robot Design

Hey everyone! This is Angela (the one with a teddy bear). I finally finished editing my robot design. The left, back, and right panels are the same as before (except I finished adding our sponsors’ logos and editing the text). But please take a look at the front panel (I made it so it doesn’t look like the Turkish flag/Islamic symbol anymore) and give me suggestions/comments. By the way, if you can’t see the picture clearly, then just zoom in. It shouldn’t blur since it has a very high resolution. Or you could email me and I’ll send you the document. Final Robot Design

It works now. Yay. SWFObject works fine, the path was wrong. Anyway, now that we have flash elements, we might as well think about adding menu options or the like. Comment if you have suggestions. The color has to be fixed, so we’ll be editing it anyway tommorow.
