Community Outreach
Our Goals
One of Saints Robotics’ missions is to inspire children to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). We have participated in many events to promote robotics programs in our community.
Promoting Science at School
Every year, we attend Bennett Elementary School and promote robotics at their annual science fair. We bring our FRC robot as well as our VEX robot and show it to the students at the science fair. This is a great way to introduce students to robotics because it captures their interest early on. We even let the children drive the robot and explore its features. Many of the students asked us how they can join, and many parents asked how they can get involved. Through our efforts, many people have shown interest in robotics, and we will continue to promote science and technology in the years to come.
Hosting the Pre-Season Robotics Workshop
During the 2008-09 season, Saints Robotics hosted the pre-season robotics workshop at Interlake High School. Teams from across the state flocked to our school to learn some helpful tips about robotics. The rookie teams found this event especially helpful, as they were introduced to some of the secrets and strategies that other teams employed in previous competitions. Through the pre-season workshop, teams acquired confidence and were more prepared for the upcoming build season.
Volunteering at the First Lego League Tournaments
We also volunteer at the FLL competitions. At the Crossroads Cup in Bellevue, WA, we set up the competition tables and refereed the competition. At the event, we also set up a Saints Robotics booth and answered any questions that passerbys had about our robotics club. At the competition, we gave students a heads up on the future competitions they can join, including FRC.
In addition, we voulunteered at the regional FLL competition and escorted people to the competition rooms. We brought our VEX robot to the competition and drove it around the gym. Many specators were interested in our demonstration and we were happy to answer their questions.
