Thanks for all who showed up to today’s meeting to help clean up! As we get closer to the FRC competition on March 26-28, there are a few things we need to start thinking about:
Hotels
The FRC competition is in Seattle. However, as it is over several days, many of us will be staying in a hotel. You should start thinking about if you will be staying at a hotel or staying at home.
Spirit Gear
We should start thinking about buying things to show our school spirit at the competitions. Start thinking about them and start sharing ideas soon.
Vex Robotics
There seems to be some interest for Vex Robotics. At today’s meeting, both Angelas, Larry, Darian, Dominic, and Eric expressed interest. I believe that Kevin, Vivek, Dennis, Teresa, and a few others showed interest during the monday meeting. If we do Vex, we need to decide whether or not we will participate in the upcoming competition at Redmond High. The competition is on March 14th, so we will have an effective build season of around three weeks. However, the robot will be much smaller and thus easier to build. If you are willing to show the dedication and put in the time needed to build the robot, it should work out just fine.
Could you explain what Vex Robotics is, before we make any decisions?
During the week-end meetings, vivek, dominic and I went to Lowe’s to buy paint.
While we were there, we tried looking for blue goggles/goggles that flashed and they are SUPER expensive (like about $30 a pair).
So we decided that it’d be better if we kept our old goggles or spray paint the sides ._.”’
I’m done with all the pin designs though, and I’ll be uploading them onto a new post (as well as the graphics gallery) later.
btw, for those that don’t know, we’re going to order a flag and t-shirts already.
Here’s an idea: have the JVP and SVP head the VEX team. Maybe? IDK.
Oh yeah, I heartily suggest staying at a hotel. It really builds team unity or something.
Good goggles are cheap ($3 per), and having flashing ones might make it hard to actually USE them. If you want spirit stuff, I suggest you google Oriental Trading and Joissu, they have really low-quality cheap stuff (like 50 blue glowing bracelets for $4.50, 6″ glow sticks for like $.60 each, blue tinsel wigs for $3 ea). Just search those sites for “spirit” or “team” and you can come up with a bunch of stuff. Oriental Trading has personalized items, so like paw print stickers with two lines of text. Also, search for “Paw Print Wristbands” on Oriental Trading. There’s no such thing as overdoing your spirit stuff… until your uniform consists of neon jumpsuits and everyone has their hair/face painted and has flashy things, you’re perfectly in-line.
By the way, there is an award for this: “The Imagery award celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration from the machine to the team appearance. Being creative and original makes this team not only look good, they make FIRST look good!” so be prepared for judges going around looking at your pit area’s decorations, team appearance, etc etc. I suggest more flames. Also, it’s a bad idea to set up a tent indoors because you will be banging your head on it because most tents are too low. Bring some cabinets or something.
Is this where we are supposed to show interest in working on vex? If so, here I am :D
